Rihanna has had her fair share of high-profile romances, including relationships with Chris Brown, Drake, and Hassan Jameel. Although those relationships didn’t work out, she has since found love with rapper A$AP Rocky. There have been plenty of rumors about the two of them dating, which they had constantly denied. However, in 2021, they finally made it official. Here’s what we know about their romance.
Instant chemistry
According to US Weekly, Rihanna and A$AP made their first professional appearance together in September 2012 when they performed at the MTV Video Music Awards, where A$AP got real handsy. The chemistry was off the charts! They also hit the road as part of Rihanna’s 2013 worldwide Diamonds tour where A$AP was her opening act for a handful of dates.
When Rihanna starred in one of A$AP’s videos in September 2013, folks started thinking something was up between them. Around that time, they were spotted looking cute and cozy and publicly displaying their affection. A$AP shut that talk down with the quickness and said, “I don’t even look at her like that.” While he admitted that Rihanna was attractive, he said he was good and wasn’t trying to be linked up with her at the time.
A$AP Rocky denied their romance
In May 2015, A$AP once again denied anything beyond friendship. According to US Weekly, when Hot 97 radio station asked if his and Rih’s status had turned romantic, A$AP answered, “It never happened. If it happened, then it would have happened. We didn’t do that.”
He also added: “That’s not what I’m looking forward to. I’m looking forward to the friendship that I already have with all these females.”
As the years went by, everybody could see their relationship was a lot more than platonic. In December 2019, they walked the red carpet at the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards. Not long after, Rihanna was spotted at A$AP’s show in Stockholm, Sweden. The maybe-couple was also seen having some laughs at the 2020 Yams Day Benefit Concert in January 2020.
Things got real hot and spicy when The Sun reported that not only were Rihanna and A$AP dating, but they kicked things off only days after she had broken up with Hassan. The paparazzi spotted them out in NYC, where a source stated they shared a hotel suite.
An insider told the publication Rihanna was reluctant to put a label on it so soon after her ending things with Hassan. But they were enjoying each other’s company and taking things easy.
Working together
As Rihanna continued to level up and expand her empire by launching Fenty Skin, she brought on A$AP to appear in one of her ads.
In 2020, she took A$AP home for the holidays and they spent a romantic vacay in her native Barbados. According to TMZ, there was no word whether A$AP got to meet her family, but they did spend a lot of time with her friends.
She’s ‘the one’
Throughout 2021, Rihanna and A$AP began to appear out and about more and more. There was no denying there was a real love connection between them. And finally, A$AP let the cat out of the bag during a May 2021 interview with GQ.
He confirmed that yes, they were dating, and, yes, he was madly in love with her. He also referred to her as “the love of my life.”
While he didn’t give too many deets, he said that being in a relationship with Rihanna is “so much better when you got the One. She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones.” He’s even given up his bachelor lifestyle and is ready to make her his one and only.
The new relationship has changed his style of music and he describes it as “a ghetto love tale” and “way more mature” than his previous projects. When asked by GQ if he was ready to be a father, he said, “If that’s in my destiny, absolutely.”
While Rihanna’s fans have been begging her to get back in the studio, she did just that, but it was to support her man. There’s still no word on whether she’s going to release music anytime soon, but the source said she was “very inspired by A$AP.”
Since A$AP has gone on the record about their status, he and Rih Rih have been spotted all over the place. They had a romantic and stylish date night in Miami in July 2021. And that same month, they were seen filming a video together in The Bronx.
